| I rigged up 2 second hand Greddy probes (of same type) and heated them with a propane blow torch. One probe maxed out at 1000C and the other maxed out at 900C (as measured by the same Greddy EGT gauge). Should I buy a newer probe in the hope that it will match one of the old probes or do the probes have a bit of variability anyway? I am thinking it doesn't really matter at all, as long as I know one reads lower than the other the gauge warning limits can be set accordingly. The other option is to buy 2 of the significantly cheaper Grand Rapids K-type inconel probes and try to get them to work. Has anyone managed to get them to register? I know that Ash had a go and didn't get it to work a few years ago but it seems like more than one person was suggesting them so perhaps someone else succeeded. My final question is about CHT probes, it seems like this would be a more useful measurement than EGT for detecting detonation and pre-ignition conditions. Is this true or false? Thanks!
